This is one of 11 watch towers that dot the coastline from Delaware to New Jersey. Watch towers like this one were manned during World War II to watch for German ships. The towers were used in pairs to triangulate coordinates for the 12" and 16" barreled guns that were positioned along the coast, hidden in the sand dunes.
